AER: Final IKV Melota Tournament, Nov 2018

(No photos for a very good reason.)

This November marks the Last IKV Melota Batleth Tournament and the 20th Anniversary of the IKV Melota as a ongoing concern. This was also our return to private property.

From 1999 through the end of 2005, Tournaments were on private property. We needed to move to Purtis Creek State Park for a decade. They were very tolerant of us. And, our reputation for cleaning the spaces better than any other campers led to us being very much welcomed back each year.

2017 allowed the Tournament to be on private property again which loosened the "public" restrictions. No sound curfew at ten. No worries about Bloodwine mugs and their contents. And, no worries about public appearances. (Any woman Warrior who chose to fight skins same as the men, did.)

Warriors gathered that Friday day to set up camp as advised. This would be deeply in a "forested" treeline and between two creeks. A fire was started for all to make up for long distance relationships. In spite of the freedom, we all hit the tents fairly early for a good nights sleep.

"Work" interfered terribly and we were missing many of our own regular Warriors, therefore, turnout was lower than expected. This allowed for a rather casual morning and combat did not start until fairly late. Luckily, we did have some "day trippers" who were regular Tournament attendees to help bolster the numbers.

The IKV Melota provides the noon time meal to speed Tournament along. Squeeze cooked for us this year.

We had a small and fast Tournament due to the number of combatants. This was pretty straightforward combat with no surprise moves.

Ceremonies were held at dusk as usual and the fire was brought up for cooking and talking. It was a great, casual evening. And, oddly enough, without the sound restrictions, we all pretty much called it about 2200 unlike the usual late nights at the public park where sound became in issue.

Sunday had a killer, overabundant breakfast with everybody overcooking and sharing to avoid having to take stuff home. Much good food! With a good night's sleep, everybody was bright eyed and bushy tailed while packing up and saying "goodbyes".

This was expected to be the Last Tournament. However, camping with the IKV Melota just had new options opened.

Strength and Honor,
